Will a RESTUBE buoy pull me up if I trigger it underwater while freediving?
Yes. If you trigger RESTUBE Safety Buoy underwater, the buoy generates lift and pulls you upward via the safety leash connected to the belt. The same amount of gas is released into the buoy every time. This volume is designed to provide maximum buoyancy at the water surface (1 bar, ambient temperature). As depth increases, ambient pressure rises (approx. +1 bar per 10 m), the gas is compressed, and the resulting buoyancy decreases accordingly.
Buoyancy depending on depth:
-
0m depth = 1 bar = fullbuoyancy = 75N = 7.5kg
-
10m depth = 2 bar = half buoyancy = 37.5N = 3.75 kg
-
20m depth = 3 bar = third buoyancy = 25N = 2.5 kg
-
30m depth = 4 bar = quarter buoyancy = 18.75N = 1.87 kg
-
40m depth = 5 bar = fifth buoyancy = 15 N = 1.5 kg
As you ascend and the pressure decreases, the gas expands and the buoyancy of the buoy increases continuously until full buoyancy is available again at the surface.
Important safety notice:
Freediving is a beautiful and intense way to experience the water, but it comes with real risks. For this reason, it should only be practiced with proper training and always with experienced dive partners – never alone, even with personal safety equipment. Safety always comes first so that the experience in the water remains free, relaxed, and unforgettable.
